Installing the Liquit Universal agent on macOS

You might have seen our announcement about us supporting macOS. We’ve been working on a Liquit Universal Agent for both Windows and macOS. It combines Windows and macOS app delivery into a single workflow. And it means transparent and seamless application management for all applications across thousands of users demanding countless application configurations.

In this blog article I will describe what’s needed to install and test the universal agent for macOS. I’ve used Parallels Desktop 17 for Mac on a MacBook Pro M1. And a VM with macOS 12.

Here we go:

After loggin into this VM, I downloaded the Liquit Universal Mac agent installer. The download URL is in the instructions which have been sent to all registered beta testers.

When, during the beta, we release newer versions you an update the agent using our builtin ‘auto update’ feature.

Double click the pkg installer file and ‘Allow’ it to be run:

In this clean VM Rosetta is not installed. Rosetta enables a Mac with an Apple silicon chip, like my M1 has, to use apps built for a Mac with an Intel processor. For now, Rosetta is a prerequisite, but this will be removed in a later release.
You can install Rosetta upfront or click on ‘Install’. More information about Rosetta in KB article HT211861.


The introduction screen is shown, click ‘Continue’:

Read the ‘Read me’ and click ‘Continue’:

Read and accept the license agreement and click ‘Continue’:

Provide the URL of your own Liquit Workspace beta zone or use the zone we’ve provided you in the beta instructions. Then click ‘Continue’:

The agent files only take up around 114 MB (that’s right, Megabytes) of disk space on your hard disk. Click ‘Install’:

You need to provide your credentials to allow the installation first:

After that you will see something very familiar, the Liquit Workspace login screen:

In this particular enviroment Azure AD has been configured as a Identity Source, which means I can login using my Azure AD account:

After a succesful login, the same Workspace you’re familiar with on Windows is presented. But now on macOS.

  • Outlook

    With this icon I can start Outlook on both macOS and on Windows. When Outlook is installed it launches the Outlook client (Outlook Desktop). If not, it launches https://outlook.office.com/mail/ in your default browser.

  • Excel

    With this icon I can start Excel on both macOS and on Windows. When Excel is installed it launches the Excel Desktop version. If not, it launches https://office.com/launch/excel in your default browser.

  • WhatsApp, Spotify and Zoom

    These are personal application, which I’ve added when working on my M1 Host. These are not installed yet in this VM. The Icons are greyed out, because Liquit detects the applications are not available (yet).

  • Calendar

    This launches the Calendar app on macOS.

  • Liquit Website

    When I click the ‘Liquit website’ icon, my default browser Safari is launched using https://www.liquit.com as the URL.

When I click the Google Chrome icon, the Liquit agent detects Chrome hasn’t been installed.
Chrome will be installed first …

… and then launched:
