The new workspace reality is here, and the old-school companies are no longer the trustworthy go-to partners they were before. I remember being a huge fan of VDI technologies, promoting it everywhere, and loving being part of this “EUC” community. There were loads of people with the same passion, deep rooted knowledge, and a vendor who we could trust.
In the last 24 months a lot of things have changed. The biggest VDI vendors are acquired by other companies, and making major shifts in the licensing model, partner model or community support. The major players in workspace management—a crucial and vital thing in a successful VDI/SBC configuration—also changed their partner model or stopped developing their solutions or become end of life. That creates a lot of buzz in the market, so in this blog I want to give a shout out to the new reality and some of the vendors who are:
- Making a change in the market
- Creating a new EUC community
- Living next to the ‘traditional’ EUC community or making a shift to a refreshed EUC community
So are Citrix, VMware and others dying? I think the answer is no. Is there a different use case for these companies, I think yes.
Now what does the new EUC community look like and what solution do we see the most? To understand that we first need to look at what companies are doing.
A lot of companies are on their way to the modern workspace. And what is the modern workspace? Usually it’s Microsoft 365 (Intune with Autopilot), a virtual desktop and a big migration path to the modern workspace and beyond. That has opened a lot of doors for a new EUC Community with a lot of great technologies. Every day I see vendors popping up creating solutions in the new modern workspace/EUC ecosystem.
Do you need to make a change to your portfolio or in your current solution? Let’s look at the great new players in the EUC ecosystem.

- Reuse your existing hardware stack or thin clients: 10zig and IGEL.
- Still have the need for VDI?
- Of course, there’s Microsoft, which is the new standard in the modern workspace with Microsoft 365 (windows 11 and Intune) and their Azure Virtual Desktop / Cloud PC proposition.)
- For specific use cases we see Dizzion Frame and Parallels DaaS as the new leaders in this market.
- Need a high powered VDI? Let’s go to Dizzion.
- If you have the need for a good performing VDI with some extra power, we see Parallels on the rise
- Creating an AVD environment can be challenging. To overcome these issues there is Nerdio. They make the world so easy in creating and managing the costs of AVD.
- We see a lot of companies struggling with monitoring, but there is a new horizon, this is called DEX, our friends at ControlUp and eG Innovations have mastered this and are taking the lead in the monitoring space.
- We prefer native application delivery and refrain from packaging but the simple truth is that a lot of applications still need special attention. Liquidware has the leading solution with their FlexApps.
- Although printing from the cloud seems to be easy, it is always a big complex issue . Therefore we see ezeep.
